Ashka currently works as a Middle East Security Researcher at the Institute for the Study of War. Ashka is a recent graduate of Bates College where she received a B.A. in Politics with a concentration in Security, Conflict, and Cooperation. She interned during the Fall ‘22 and Spring ‘23 semesters on the Iranian Axis of Resistance portfolio. Her research interests focus on irregular warfare, state-building, and proxy networks in the Middle East.

Statistics and Programming

I learned how to use the programming language, R for statistical computing and data analysis. In my senior thesis, I worked with Ted Gurr’s Minorities at Risk (MAR) database to investigate what factors lead to language conflicts.

Writing

I have developed an ability to write cleanly and efficiently under tight deadlines, prepare for high-profile interviews, write academic papers, create brief and effective memos, and structure journalistically sound material.
